Once you've made a nice base, you might want to share it with the world. One way to do this is by using an embed.
Embedding a base will allow anyone to see all of the information in the entire base. This is great if you want to share lots of information spread out over many tables in a single base. But beware: this option will really show everything in the entire base, so use caution!
To embed a whole base, click the "Share" button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Once there, click on the option "Create a shared link to the whole base" under the "Link sharing" header.
Clicking the “private read-only link” option will generate a share link for the base. (You can learn more about base share links in this support article.) There will also be an "embed" option. Clicking on this will open a new preview page which will show you what the embed will look like on desktop and mobile.
From the preview page, you can copy out the embed code and paste it into your site. You also have the option of changing the background color of your embed (or making the background color transparent), and the option enabling the card layout style for the desktop embed.
For information on the data copying permissions for embedded bases, see this help article on data copying permissions for share links.
You can embed just a specific view of a table within a base—as opposed to the entire base. The viewer of the embed will not see any columns or rows that are hidden in this view, and they’ll always see the most up-to-date version of the view. (In case you change cell values, add rows or columns, or toggle which rows and columns are visible).
(Note that if the embedded view exposes a column containing linked records, only the names of those linked records will be exposed and any viewers of your embed will not be able to open up a linked record to see all of the fields of that link record as you would in the regular app.)
The first step is to create a view for embedding. Then, click the view bar’s share link button (note that this is different from the base’s share button).
This will bring up an option to "Create a shareable grid view link." Checking the box will generate a private read-only link to this view which you can copy and paste. Only people with the share link will be able to access this table view. (For more on view share links, check out this support article).
A button will also appear that says "Embed this view on your site." Clicking this button will open a new preview page which will show you what the embed will look like on desktop and mobile.
From the preview page, you can copy out the embed code and paste it into your site. You have some options for customizing your embed:
- Change the background color of your embed (or making the background color transparent).
- Enable the card layout style for the desktop embed.
- Show or hide the view controls at the top of the embed. This will allow filtering, sorting, hiding views, and the ability to print the view.
For information on the data copying permissions for embedded table views, see this help article on data copying permissions for share links.
If for any reason you wish to disable your embed, you can do so using the same methods found in this support article on how to disable a share link.
If you disable an embed, anyone viewing the embed will see an error screen:
Here are a couple examples of what an embed might look like on a food blog and a wedding website:
