What a design system does
A design system is a set of brand tokens (colors, typography, spacing, and shape) that Canvas uses as the visual foundation for what it builds. Attach one and your first result matches your brand instead of Canvas's defaults. This saves rounds of restyling and keeps canvases consistent when several people build from one brand.
With a design system attached, the style and color menus in Edit list your brand's options first, so you can pick a brand color instead of typing a hex code.
Build a design system
Open Design systems from the Canvas sidebar.
Create a new design system and add what you have: a logo, brand guidelines, screenshots, font files, or a brand document. You can also add up to 5 brand website links.
Wait for it to generate. This takes a few minutes, and the page shows each step as it finishes. You can leave the page, and you'll get a notification when it's ready.
Canvas pulls colors, typography, spacing, and shape tokens, such as border radius and shadows, from what you add. Uploads become part of the design system, so Canvas can use your actual logo and fonts.
To add more later, use the Assets section of the editor. You can add images, font files, PDFs, and text references such as CSS, JSON, or Markdown, up to 10 files at a time and 5 MB each. A design system holds up to 50 assets or 20 MB in total.
Attach a design system to a canvas
On the Canvas home screen, choose a design system in the toolbar under the prompt before you send your first message. Every generation in that canvas uses it.
The editor shows your tokens but can't preview a finished canvas. To see the design system in use, attach it to a small sample canvas and generate.
Share a design system
Open the design system's card menu in the library, or click Share in the editor.
Pick one or more workspaces.
The design system appears in the library of everyone with creator or owner permissions in those workspaces, in the All and Shared tabs, with your avatar on the card. People with lower permissions don't see it. Recipients always get your latest version.
You can't share to Free workspaces or to workspaces with restricted enterprise access. If a workspace you shared to moves to a Free plan, the design system stops appearing there. It comes back if the workspace becomes eligible again, and canvases that already use it keep using it.
Un-share or delete
Un-sharing a workspace removes the design system from that workspace's libraries, so it can't be applied to new canvases. Canvases already using it aren't affected.
Deleting removes it everywhere, including from other people's canvases, which build without it from then on. Only you can delete it, and Canvas doesn't block the deletion, so be sure first.
Neither option changes results that were already built.
FAQs
Can I preview a design system before I use it?
Not in the editor. Attach it to a sample canvas, generate, and review the result.
Who can see a design system I've shared?
People with creator or owner permissions in the workspaces you shared it to. They can apply it but can't edit, delete, or re-share it.
