This article details how to use the web clipper extension to gather information from a web page and use it to create records in Airtable.

NOTE

The Airtable web clipper browser extension can only be used when accessing Airtable in Google Chrome.

Using the web clipper extension  

To install the web clipper extension in Chrome:

  1. Open Chrome and go to the Airtable Chrome extension.

  2. Click Add to Chrome.

  3. Click Add extension.  

    1. A popup appears stating that you can, “Manage your extensions by clicking Extensions in the Window menu.”

To install the web clipper extension in Airtable:

  1. Open your Airtable homepage.

  2. Open the base where you want to add clipped records.

  3. Click Extensions next to the “Tools” menu.

  4. Click Add an extension and search for “Web clipper.”

  5. Click Add.

  6. Click Add to extension, then Open extension.

  7. Click Add record to table, then Add record.

  8. Click Show in Airtable.

To customize clip action settings:

Customizing clip actions lets you choose what kind of content goes into different fields when creating records using the browser extension.

  1. Open your Airtable homepage.

  2. Open the base where you want to add clipped records.

  3. Click Extensions next to the “Tools” menu.

  4. Click the “Field” dropdown and select your preferred field.

  5. Click the “Default value” dropdown and select your preferred default value.

  6. Click Done.  

To add clip actions:

NOTE

Your clip actions' fields can vary depending on whether and how they're customized. Some fields might be prefilled with the web page's default values—like the page title or URL—while others might be blank. You can also create default values from CSS selectors.

  1. Open Chrome.

  2. While browsing a web page, click on your web clipper icon to bring up the list of available clip actions.

  3. Select your preferred clip action and the associated available options.

  4. Click Add record, then Show in Airtable.

To remove clip actions:

  1. Open Chrome.

  2. Click the web clipper icon to bring up the list of available clip actions.

  3. Select the clip action you want to remove.

  4. Click the icon.

  5. Click Remove clip action.

To import clip actions:

  1. Open your Airtable homepage.

  2. Open the base where you want to add clipped records.

  3. Click Extensions next to the “Tools” menu.

  4. Click Import.

To export clip actions:

  1. Open your Airtable homepage.

  2. Open the base where you want to add clipped records.

  3. Click Extensions next to the “Tools” menu.

  4. Click Export.

  5. Select Click to copy.
